Budding Concepts offers workshops on a range of gardening topics. They are a fun and interactive way to learn more about whatever gardening topic you are curious about, delivered in a friendly manner that allows the sharing of ideas, advice and goals.

Learning how to garden can be daunting. There seems to be so many rules and cross-information. This workshop is about getting back to basics and teaching a first home owner or young gardener the fundamental horticultural knowledge to start planting with confidence and joy. We will look at the role soil types, sunlight, water and nutrition in plant growth. How to select plants for your position and function. Maintenance and ongoing care process, tools and seasonal schedules.

Want to design your garden but don’t know where to start? This workshop takes you through the design fundamentals to create your own garden design and make sustainable choices about layout, plant choice and maintenance requirements. We will look at style, flow and practical inclusions.

Learn how to design a garden for children. It requires imagination, whimsy, and a sturdy sense of fun. We will look at overall layout, plant selection and practical solutions to cater for little imaginations

Having chickens in your backyard is a triple delight! They provide entertainment, eggs and home-made compost. Learn how to overcome their destructive nature and utilise their natural scratching habit. We will look at overall layout, plant selection for chicken health, practical solutions to contain and entertain and how to integrate sustainable gardening practices.

An edible garden is a delight to the senses! Careful planning can provide yields all year round in a beautiful, aesthetically pleasing manner. We will look at the difference between annual and perennial crops, planning a space according to your aspect and microclimate, soil preparation, plant selection, incorporating sustainable practices and ongoing maintenance.
Private gardening workshops are run on an on-demand basis. A minimum of five people are required for a workshop, so gather your friends or community group together to get started. Cost and availability depends on group size, workshop length and topic resources required.
Workshops are currently offered only as a come-to-you resource, as they require physical workspace to host from. If you would like to attend a workshop, there are two options to select from:

This is fantastic if you are wanting information about designing your space, as we can use your backyard as our example and will gain tailored insight. Please specify whether you are happy to have other people from the waiting list attend, or would prefer a private event.
